There’s More to Healthcare Careers Than Being a Nurse or Doctor

So, you want to get into healthcare, but you either don’t want be the stereotypical nurse or your just looking for something that suits your tastes more. (There’s nothing wrong with nurses by the way, haha.) If either of those are the case, then consider these great jobs that are still in the medical field, but aren’t always discovered right off. I’m sure your bound to learn a lot!
Careers that Require Certification or Two-Year Degree:
- Medical Technician: run diagnostic tests and operate necessary machines, such as MRI’s and ultrasounds.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): responds to emergency calls on-site. His or her job is to stabilize the patient and transport to a hospital.
- Medical Coding: makes sure what’s on the paperwork at the doctor’s office matches up with the way the insurance companies will interpret the claims. These same codes are also used for ordering tests for patients.

Who hasn’t wanted to be a vet when they were a child? I know I wanted to be one! If you are in the market for a healthcare job, maybe you should consider the possiblilty of becoming a veterinarian. I mean, who wouldn’t want to take care of all those cute little animals! Here’s an overview of all the types of places you could be working at as a vet and what you would be making.
Private Practice
Practice may be general or restricted. In general practice the individual offers service for all species of animals. Currently the trend is toward restricted practice, in which the veterinarian limits his or her activity to small animals, cattle, horses, or poultry, etc. Some veterinarians, by virtue of advanced training and experience, become specialists and limit their work to fields such as ophthalmology, orthopedics, diseases of reproduction, or other specialty areas. There is an accelerating trend toward partnership or group practice. Most new graduates gain experience by working with an established veterinarian for at least one year.
